Well the house is ours :)

So the house is officially ours and Richard moved into it on Sat. Apparently there are about one billion keys that go along with it. A different one for every door, and a variety of locks that are around the house. The main key is an old school skeleton type key apparently. How freaking cool is that!?!? What happens when you need to get a key cut though???? Those of you that know me well know that I'm really not good with my keys and I lose them frequently.

Apparently some things still need to be done in the house but the landlord went on vacay so it will be a week or two before they are back and everything gets finished. In the meantime Richard dropped into Ikea and kitted us out with the basics such as linen and dishes, which apparently don't come with a furnished home in Italy :) Silly us.

He slept with the windows open on Sunday night and said the cuckoos were driving him insane, plus it "sounded like a goose was coughing downstairs" yep those were his exact words. The geese outside were apparently too noisy for his liking. And the village bell tower clock chimes on the hour all night long AND on the quarter, half and quarter to as well, lovely. I'm sure we'll get used to it, and it looks like we'll be sleeping with windows closed and AC on!!!

I already have a list of things I have to bring with me that are really random such as: Costco sized Ibuprofen gel caps, fake wasp nests from Canadian Tire, Travel adaptors since there are apparently TWO types of standard plugs in Italy and Richard bought all the kitchen appliances in the OTHER type :)

But....we have a place to live, with AC, bug screens and a dryer so I can't complain!!!!!

Don't worry, Rachel and Richard, you will soon get accustom to all those local sounds...when we first arrived here we couldn't stand that there seemed to be just about every bird outside our window at 5am, sow, we only hear it if we happen to be awake already, and even then we can ignore it. It used to sound like someone had those gentle noise machine with the rainforest setting, but they had hooked it up to a 5 point Dolby Digital sound system set on Theater level!

About Me

My photo
Milan, Italy
I am 34 years old, married to my wonderful husband Richard and mother to a beautiful 8 year old daughter named Reese. We lived in the suburbs of Calgary until January 2010 where I worked as an ER Nurse. Then my husband was transferred to Vancouver for a 6 month temporary project. Our blog Tripping over the Sidewalk told all about our adventure living on the 30th floor of an apartment building in the middle of downtown Vancouver. Then we moved to Milan, Italy for 18 months, Ciao-Eh was the online forum for our Italian adventures. We moved to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates in January 2012 and lived there for two and a half years. Sandscrapers, Souks and Sand is the blog of our adventures in the Middle East! We are now happy to be back on a little acreage just outside of Calgary where I'm sure more adventures await!!!!
